The Fallacy of 'Just Hire a VP'

Why hiring a full-time executive too early crushes your burn rate without accelerating execution.

The Fallacy of 'Just Hire a VP'

Growth stage founders frequently assume their primary bottleneck is the absence of a singular, full-time executive holding a specific title. This reflects an Industrial-era mindset applied to modern product momentum.

The Cost of Overhead

Hiring a full-time VP requires an extensive search, high baseline compensation, and typically three to six months before they are fully ramped on the product schema. For an early Series A or B startup, six months of compromised velocity is existential risk.

Instead, inject senior leadership fractionally. Solve the immediate architectural and design debt, validate the trajectory, and recruit the permanent internal leader only once the operational bedrock is secure.
